Sherwin & Pam Linton Honored With  Valley Star Heritage Award
Each winter Sherwin and Pam spend two months working in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas entertaining their mid-west snowbird friends and fans performing as a trio with friend and original "Cotton King" Dick Moebakken.  This has been an annual trip they have made for the past sixteen years. Besides getting to play music they love they also get away from what can sometimes be brutal winter weather.
Sherwin and Pam's Rio Grande Valley shows span a distance of about 200 miles from the romantically inviting South Padre Island and west to the town of Zapata. Zapata is named for the famous Mexican revolutionary, partner of Pancho Villa.  The town is located on Falcon Lake where Winter Texans enjoy great fishing.
Performing in the entertainment centers at mobile and RV parks each evening and also doing pool party shows at the La Copa Hotel keep them busy and in good vocal shape.  Each park has an activity director who books the weekly entertainment for that park.  Each of the directors is a member of the Rio Grande Valley Activity Directors Association.  This organization sponsors an annual showcase of entertainment each January where the activity directors contract their entertainment for the coming year.  In February the Rio Grande Valley Activity Director's Association in conjunction with the Winter Texan Times host the "Valley Star Awards."  This is a real true to life awards show honoring the best vocalist and vocal groups entertaining in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. In previous years Sherwin was voted "Entertainer of the Year" three times at another awards event in the Rio Grande Valley which was sponsored by F.A.M.E. (Families Advocating Moral Entertainment)
This years "Valley Star Awards" was hosted at the beautiful Mission Bell Ballroom in Mission, TX on February 18th.  The show is directed and emceed by the president of the Rio Grande Valley Activity Directors Association, Robert Ferguson and his wife Billie. Sherwin, Pam and Dick Moebakken were invited to perform on the show. As the show neared it's close it was announced that a new award had been established.  "The Heritage Award" would honor an act or individual who had made a substantial contribution to "Winter Texan Entertainment" in the Rio Grande Valley.  To their surprise, the first recipient of the "Valley Star Heritage Award" would be Sherwin and Pam Linton.

Flattered to once again be recognized for their many years of entertainment business contributions Sherwin and Pam graciously accepted the award.  Pam recognized their many fans as "Friends" and thanked them for their unending support over Sherwin's now 61 year career.  Sherwin expressed his surprise and thanked everyone, then quoted the 19th Century poet Oliver Wendel Holmes who wrote,
"Time wrecks the proudest piles we raise, The towers, the domes, the temples fall;
The fortress ever crumbles and decays, One breath of song outlasts them all."

Sherwin, Pam  and "The Cotton Kings" Appearing With Marty Haggard
Sherwin Linton fans are looking forward to the Anoka Lions annual fund raising concert, held annually in the Anoka High School Auditorium in Anoka, MN. The Lion's are gracious Country Music fans and hosts.  This year they are proud to announce their show will include the outstanding talent of Marty Haggard.  Opening the show will be Sherwin and Pam Linton and "The Cotton Kings."
Marty Haggard, the son of Country Music great Merle Haggard, has been no stranger to Country Music drama of his own. Raised by his grandmother he lived in a railroad boxcar until age 12. He had a short acting career appearing in a TV show called "The Fitzpatricks" and in a movie with Henry Fonda. He was shot and left for dead by a hitchhiker and survived. At his father's request he joined Merle's band playing rhythm guitar and singing harmony vocals. He began his solo career in 1985 releasing four singles. Following a very serious car accident he began a Christian Music career and has since recorded two albums in tribute to his father Merle Haggard.
Since Merle Haggard was such a close friend to Country Music great George Jones Sherwin has planned for a portion of his opening part of the show to include a "Tribute To George Jones."
